I have a confession to make. I am total skincare junkie! I love taking care of my skin, I love knowing what I put on my face, I like to understand ingredients, formulas and what they do for the health of your skin. I follow a lot of skincare content creators on YouTube and have educated myself quite a bit on skincare products, ingredients, etc
I thought it would be fun to put my professional skills in data visualization and Google search demand and my passion for skincare knowledge together and create a visual that shows how we search for skin care in Google.
This was a great excercise using Flourish and creating a Sunburst chart.
I did a keyword research categorizing a list of about 600 keywords by a top category – skincare products like cleanser, serum, moisturizer, cream, etc, then using subcategories related to ingredients, effect and skin type like cleanser with salicylic acid or cleanser for dry skin. The top categories are represented by the most inner circle of the Sunburst, the subcategories are represented by the middle circle and the keywords are the very outer circle in this Sunburst chart. Size of the chart components is determined by the search volume of the keywords, (data from Moz).
This is also a great example of how you can visualize your keyword research and present it to clients. This skincare data can be very useful for online beauty stores and skincare brands.
