Location Data – Visualizing My Trip to Thassos Island, Greece

I recently travelled to the Greek Island of Thassos. Thassos is the northernmost island in Greece and is accessible only by regular ferry services from the village of Keramoti and the town of Kavala. The island does not have an airport and that is why it is popular tourist destination mainly among locals, or by tourists from neighbouring countries. If you live overseas and would like to visit Thassos the closest airports are in Thessaloniki and Xanthi.

I first visited Thassos only for a day back in 2019 before the pandemic. We stayed for a week at the village of Keramoti and we decided to do a day trip to the island. We loved it so much that we decided to plan to come back the following year, 2020. But then Covid happened and travel was restricted. Fast forward to 2022 we were able to return to stay in Thassos for a week and explore it even more.

Thassos is beautiful like most Greek islands. There are beauitful beaches, delicious food, romantic small villages and friendly local people.

Using location data and Flourish I built a marker story map to show the places we visited in Thassos this year!
