Why wear sunscreen – an infographic

What is sunscreen

Sunscreen products are skin care products that contain active ingredients with properties that block UV rays from penetrating the skin on our face and body.

Why wear sunscreen

The sun sends out two main types of UV rays, UVB and UVA. UVB rays cause skin burns. They are by no means harmless since UVB rays can lead to serious skin burns. The skin damage from UVB rays is immediately visible after a prolonged sun exposure. UVA rays are more harmful than UVB rays since they pentrate the skin deeper and cause skin aging, sun spots and can lead to skin cancer. The damage from UVA rays is not immediately visible, it accumulates with time.

Everyone should be using sunscreen regardless of age, skin type or skin color. Sun protection however does not stop with the application of sunscreen. We need to use sun protective clothing, avoid long sun exposure and seek shade regularly. If outdoors for a long time, sunscreen should be applied at least every two hours.

Why everyone should wear sunscreen – the infographic

With this infographic I would like to visually show how UV rays affect our skin health and what else we need to know about SPF (sun protection factor) and sunscreen active ingredients.

Why wear sunscreen

This inforgraphic is for general education purposes and for fun. I am not a dermatologist or skin expert. You should seek the help of a doctor if you struggle with serious skin conditions.
